When The French Are More American Than Democrats

sarkozyamerica.jpg

The Liberal/Socialist NeoLeft must be having fits at the now-obvious loss of a fellow American-hating ally in France.

Could you ever imagine a day when a French President would have a better understanding and appreciation for the United States of America than so-called Americans like Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha, Hillary Clinton, and the host of the Democrat party? A better grasp of the role of America than Isolationists and Blame America-Firsters like Ron Paul and his Communist pal Noam Chomsky?

I’m certain – I have not heard such positive, glowing remarks about this nation from any politician since Ronald Reagan.

It’s a pitiful shame that a French President demonstrates American pride and patriotism better than many Americans do.

Perhaps we should take note and consider that example. But it will be fun to watch the Leftist Media and their political operatives go absolutely beserk in tearing down Mr. Sarkozy, and pray again for the days of America-loathing Frenchmen so they can tout the Carterisms and anti-American rhetoric from our own countrymen that we have “ruined” our standing in the world.

Sarkozy puts that notion back in the grave where it came from, and demonstrates himself a better American than many, many Democrats.

French President Applauds America

Excerpts from Sarkozy speech:

…From the very beginning, the American dream meant proving to all mankind that freedom, justice, human rights and democracy were no utopia but were rather the most realistic policy there is and the most likely to improve the fate of each and every person.

America did not tell the millions of men and women who came from every country in the world and who—with their hands, their intelligence and their heart—built the greatest nation in the world: “Come, and everything will be given to you….”

Except that is EXACTLY what the Left and the Democrats are trying to convince everyone that is what America stands for. They tell us that we deserve FREE government healthcare, that it is a right, that America exists to rob from wealthy neighbors to forcefully give to those the government deems are needy.

Why are their millions of illegal Mexican insurgents?

The perception that coming to America means getting free stuff at the hand of government.

Sarkozy understands what millions of Americans do not.

How sad.

She [America] said: “Come, and the only limits to what you’ll be able to achieve will be your own courage and your own talent.” America embodies this extraordinary ability to grant each and every person a second chance.

Here, both the humblest and most illustrious citizens alike know that nothing is owed to them and that everything has to be earned. That’s what constitutes the moral value of America. America did not teach men the idea of freedom; she taught them how to practice it. And she fought for this freedom whenever she felt it to be threatened somewhere in the world. It was by watching America grow that men and women understood that freedom was possible.

…Fathers took their sons to see the vast cemeteries where, under thousands of white crosses so far from home, thousands of young American soldiers lay who had fallen not to defend their own freedom but the freedom of all others, not to defend their own families, their own homeland, but to defend humanity as a whole.

Fathers took their sons to the beaches where the young men of America had so heroically landed….. France will never forget the sacrifice of your children.

To those 20-year-old heroes who gave us everything, to the families of those who never returned, to the children who mourned fathers they barely got a chance to know, I want to express France’s eternal gratitude.

On behalf of my generation, which did not experience war but knows how much it owes to their courage and their sacrifice; on behalf of our children, who must never forget; to all the veterans who are here today and, notably the seven I had the honor to decorate yesterday evening, one of whom, Senator Inouye, belongs to your Congress, I want to express the deep, sincere gratitude of the French people. I want to tell you that whenever an American soldier falls somewhere in the world, I think of what the American army did for France. I think of them and I am sad, as one is sad to lose a member of one’s family.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The men and women of my generation remember the Marshall Plan that allowed their fathers to rebuild a devastated Europe. They remember the Cold War, during which America again stood as the bulwark of the Free World against the threat of new tyranny.

I remember the Berlin crisis and Kennedy who unhesitatingly risked engaging the United States in the most destructive of wars so that Europe could preserve the freedom for which the American people had already sacrificed so much.

No one has the right to forget. Forgetting, for a person of my generation, would be tantamount to self-denial.

Too bad so many Americans on the Left have chosen to forget, and demand that the rest of us forget. Ron Paul tells us that our involvement in the world caused woe and misery. It is refreshing to hear someone who truly understands the greatness of our nation and the role it has played for liberty.

Read the rest of the speech at this link. It will take you back to a time when America had a similar statesman, who believed in and shared this ideal of America. Not one of pessimism, not one of self blame, not one of adopting policies anethema to liberty, but a message of faith, belief and praise for a nation that does more good than than the Democrats, Socialists and Isolationists like Ron Paul will ever utter. It is a shame that a French President is having to teach America, how to have pride in our own country.

Mr. Sarkozy shames them, and makes me ashamed that such people can consider themselves Americans.

Today, Mr. Sarkozy has demonstrated what a real American is: understanding what America really is, and pride in our history, our heritage and our efforts in the world.

  1. You are aware that France has one of the most extensive welfare states in the world, right?

And you are aware that by American standards, Sarkozy is a flaming socialist, right?

He is in full support of the status quo of nationalized health care, government subsidized daycare, government subsidized college, etc. He’s further to the left than every Democrat and most American leftists.

  2. invar

I’m commenting on what he said in his speech.

Which is hardly flaming Left in comparison to what we hear daily from the NeoLeftists running both Congress and the Media, and a huge departure from what we hear from the Democrat presidential candidates and Ron Paul.

Was Sarkozy an architect of France’s Socialist welfare system? Or does he see the need to change it?

By today’s American standards, Sarkozy’s policies and today’s speech in Congress puts him to the hard right of Pelosi, Reid, Murtha, and the majority of the Democrats.

Based on what I have heard him state as policy, he is more like a Joe Lieberman on many issues than the insanity of the Hate-America Left.

  3. So I’m just going to ignore – what I hope are – your silly rhetorical tropes. “NeoLeftist” is a meaningless term, and I’m fairly certain that the “Left” isn’t motivated by a blind hatred of America. Or at least, I’m willing to grant my fellow citizens that much.

But on the topic of Sarkozy, the French president is still to the left of almost everyone in the mainstream of American politics.

As far as French domestic policy is concerned, he has never voiced opposition to the French welfare state, nor is he necessarily opposed to the breadth of the French welfare state. Most of his policies are “tweaks” in the implementation. “Allowing” workers to have 40 hour work weeks, and liberalizing (in the classical sense) laws regarding hiring and firing.

If anything, by French standards, congressional Democrats are on the hard-right of Sarkozy, not the other way around. Most Democrats support minor adjustments in our (relatively) bare bones support structure, and are for the most part, in support of American intervention abroad.

Regardless of what you think of these on their merits, it’s simple misrepresentation to call congressional Democrats “leftists” in any sense.

So I’m just going to ignore – what I hope are – your silly rhetorical tropes. “NeoLeftist” is a meaningless term

About as “meaningless” as the use of “neocon” by anti-semites that populate both the Ron Paul and Democrat parties?

and I’m fairly certain that the “Left” isn’t motivated by a blind hatred of America.

Your certainty is dead wrong then. A majority of the Left in America HATE – and I mean HATE much of what America’s foundations were built on, and the people who stand for those foundations.

I’ve been spit on, punched and almost shoved into the path of a Metra train by Leftists who think free speech is limited to themselves. I’ve seen seething rage from these Leftists that would gladly bite chunks of flesh from those opposing their ideology on a level of the death of the disciple Stephen.

So you can try and tell me that the Left does not have a blind hatred for America – but I’ve seen it firsthand, as well as many Americans who pay attention to what the Left in this country actually say.

Or at least, I’m willing to grant my fellow citizens that much.

Until they try to kill you for opposing them and their ideology.

But on the topic of Sarkozy, the French president is still to the left of almost everyone in the mainstream of American politics.

Given his stated positions on policies in a Socialist France – you would be wrong again.

Pelosi, Durbin and Reid make Sarkozy look like Reagan in comparison.

Because as he said, France has to be weaned off of Socialism.

Most Democrats support minor adjustments in our (relatively) bare bones support structure, and are for the most part, in support of American intervention abroad.

Is ‘minor adjustments’ what you call Democrats trying to nationalize the oil industry, health care and so on??

The Democrats are more in line with Hugo Chavez, whom they publicly applaud – who is a militant Communist.

Regardless of what you think of these on their merits, it’s simple misrepresentation to call congressional Democrats “leftists” in any sense.

That’s just plain bovine excrement on your part. So what DNC Soros front group do you spin for?

The Democrats in Congress are no different than the Communists of South America and the overt Socialists of Europe.

When they denounce our own president, our troops and Americans who support them in the same language our enemies from Castro to Bin Laden do – they make themselves as party to our enemies as those who wave red flags for the Communists.

They are decidedly Left – and the Code Pinkos, Moveon.org bunch are the epitome of what I call the NeoLeft.

  5. “So what DNC Soros front group do you spin for?”

The moment the insults and accusations come out is the moment I stop the conversation.

Have fun seething in your delusions.

Must have hit pretty close to the mark and nailed you for what you are.

When you say that it is a “misrepresentation to call congressional Democrats “Leftists” in any sense”, in the face of raw facts and their own words and actions – makes you either totally ignorant, a boldfaced liar, or a spinmeister for the aforementioned.

You can consider it an insult and accusation if you wish –

    – you did not refute anything I cited or provided any substance to the contrary of what I’ve noted.

You might want to keep that hand near your posterior as you exit the door.

  7. Patriotism is not defined by how much one loves a country. This country invented the modern definition of patriotism as someone who rejects government abuses. You neocons and your re-definition of patriotism is sickening.

The true patriot is motivated by a sense of responsibility and out of self-interest for himself, his family, and the future of his country to resist government abuse of power. He rejects the notion that patriotism means obedience to the state. Resistance need not be violent, but the civil disobedience that might be required involves confrontation with the state and invites possible imprisonment.

Peaceful, nonviolent revolutions against tyranny have been every bit as successful as those involving military confrontation. Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., achieved great political successes by practicing nonviolence, and yet they suffered physically at the hands of the state. But whether the resistance against government tyrants is nonviolent or physically violent, the effort to overthrow state oppression qualifies as true patriotism.

Patriotism is not defined by how much one loves a country. This country invented the modern definition of patriotism as someone who rejects government abuses.

Thanks for demonstrating your complete lack of understanding about what actually constitutes a patriot.

If we go by what you say is the definition: “as someone who rejects government abuses” – then the whole and entirety of the Democrat party and a majority of the Republican party are unpatriotic and outright traitors if you take a look at everything from the IRS on up to Ruby Ridge and Waco.

Shall we talk about stripping you of private property for environazi policies? Taxing you to death because the government says you make too much money?

Where are you people protesting the banning of religious exercise; private property rights; arms and so on? You’re nowhere! You’re one-note sonatas who protest nothing but Bush and the war that Jihadists have been waging on us for decades, while we continue the downward slide into Socialism.

You see nothing wrong with the imposition of a Soviet State running everything from the oil industry to health care. But we hear your shouts about how wrong and evil America is.

Sorry – that is not patriotism. It’s treason – disguised as patriotism. You aid and comfort all of our enemies both foreign and domestic.

You neocons and your re-definition of patriotism is sickening.

I’m curious about where anti-semites like yourself derrive what constitutes patriotism. For the most part – it seems to stem from ideologies of Marx and Stalin than by Jefferson or Washington.

The true patriot is motivated by a sense of responsibility and out of self-interest for himself, his family, and the future of his country to resist government abuse of power.

I love when you imbeciles illustrate yourselves complete idiots on a subject you profess to understand.

Patriotism had nothing to do with self-anything. Patriotism is a stance for the preservation of liberty for his faith, his family and his nation. Or does the term God and Country mean nothing to you?

A Patriots stands for the foundational principles that keep liberty and this republic intact. It stands against those who seek to harm those principles, or it’s people.

Standing for the rights of Jihadists intent on killing Americans and other people, is not patriotic – but idiotic. Blaming this nation for all owe on the planet is not patriotic but despotic. You may try and claim this under the banner of standing against government abuse, but you are fooling yourself.

Resistance need not be violent, but the civil disobedience that might be required involves confrontation with the state and invites possible imprisonment.

You and your Code Pink comrades are HARDLY American Patriots.

You are appeasers and comforters of our enemies who are killing fellow countrymen, with a shared ideology that stands against the very principles that define a patriot.

… the effort to overthrow state oppression qualifies as true patriotism.

When people like you wish to overthrow what little liberty we have left for a Socialist nanny-state, an Isolationist Soviet Satellite and seek to run like cowards from enemies sworn to our annihilation – you are hardly any kind of patriot, except to mischief and slavery to a tyranny you think is a moral duty.

  9. You know what is really really funny? The whole second paragraph is from Thomas Jefferson.

You really oughta look up what a straw man argument is. You set them up regularly and then tear them down. If you plan to continue debating, you should at least learn the basics. (And a little civics and America history wouldn’t hurt either.)

I’ll leave you with more Jefferson quotes:
“Conquest is not in our principles. It is inconsistent with our government. ”

“Every generation needs a new revolution.”

“Force is the vital principle and immediate parent of despotism.”

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Welcome to the revolution my friend.

  10. Che Tse-Stalin

I must say that you are mistaken. I consider myself to be far to the Left of the Political Spectrum, and after reading your post, I don’t hate you. You can insult me as much as you like and I will never hate you.

When you refer to others as “anti-semites” and their opinions as “idiotic,” you ruin any chance of convicing them that your viewpoint is worth embracing.

Is it that you want people to hate you? Do you hate yourself so much that you insult people until they hate you as well? I don’t hate you. I feel sorry for you.

Disagreements are part of life, and by the looks of things, you whole-heartedly dissagree with at least 75% of the U.S. Population (Probably about 98% of the World). So, you might want to try a different tact if you want any of your arguments to be considered valid.

Also, next time you’re copying and pasting quotes from the Bible, try reading it. There are some interesting passages about “Loving your Enemy” and “Helping the Poor” that I think you might like.

  11. invar

When you refer to others as “anti-semites” and their opinions as “idiotic,” you ruin any chance of convicing them that your viewpoint is worth embracing.

I call things and especially ideas what they are. I do not mince words or sugar coat what I think when it comes to defending those things I am passionate about.

When “neocon” is used – I understand from what mindset that derrogatory comes from.

It’s rooted in hatred of Jews and Israel.

When I call an idea idiotic, it most likely is. Sorry if your sensibilities are so soft, but we’re in a culture war and when I fight, I’m not playing tiddley winks.

Is it that you want people to hate you?

I don’t care what people think of me actually. I’m not out to win friends, just state the truth.

As far as people hating me, I was told that would be the case in Matthew 24: 9. I embrace it.

Do you hate yourself so much that you insult people until they hate you as well? I don’t hate you. I feel sorry for you.

I don’t make nicey nice with evil and things anethema to my liberty. You can feel sorry all you like, that’s not going to stop the juggernaut to erase our culture and heritage.

Disagreements are part of life, and by the looks of things, you whole-heartedly dissagree with at least 75% of the U.S. Population (Probably about 98% of the World).

I’m not governed by opinion polls. I’m glad Jesus wasn’t either. I’ll stand on my principles, even if I stand alone. 2/3 of the Colonists disagreed with those that took up arms to preserve our God-given liberty.

    I stand in good company.

You are welcome to remain with the herd of goats and feel comfortable with the notion that you think like the herd.

So, you might want to try a different tact if you want any of your arguments to be considered valid.

By whom? Those intent on tearing our foundational principles down? No thanks.

There’s plenty of other soft-spoken compromising folks out there to fill the need of a populace that wants to hear ‘smooth and easy things’.

I’m tired of watching that tact get no traction, while our liberties and rights get stripped from us, while our culture is flushing down the rot tube.

I’m standing up and saying “No more!”. I call a spade a spade, sin a sin and crap for what it is, and I do so without apology. This is war to me, not a high school debate club.

Also, next time you’re copying and pasting quotes from the Bible, try reading it. There are some interesting passages about “Loving your Enemy” and “Helping the Poor” that I think you might like.

I imagine you would be one to lecture Jesus about “loving enemies” when He excoriated the Pharisees and beat the moneychangers from the temple with whips and chains.

God does not compromise with sin, evil or idiocy.

At this stage of our decaying culture, neither should we.

We’re at war for the soul of a nation about to suffer curses for our stupidity.

There’s enough people out there trying to reason and discuss and massage those with intents hostile to our foundations.

I’m in an effort to simply call things what they are and halt the erosion of what is left of our freedoms.

I’m sorry if you do not like how I do it – but this place is not called Sword-At-The-Ready for nothing.

  12. NH_GOP

See I told you this guy is a LIBERAL! He loves the FRENCH! Need we say more?

Dig deeper and peel away the onion layers and there you have your socialist in white sheets.

  13. NH_GOP

I just saw this “…huge departure from what we hear from the Democrat presidential candidates and Ron Paul.”

So you’ve heard Ron Paul advocate socialism? PROVE IT… that is just about the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard. This is a man who has said over and over again that people need to rely on themselves and that social programs need to be CUT.

Honestly, it’s amazing how much you don’t know about Ron Paul. You’re one of those people who thinks anti-war immediately means socialist.. How droll….how ignorant.

Find me one place where Ron Paul hasn’t denounced socialism? Sarkovsky puts on a good show for what he thinks people want to hear in America but don’t kid yourself — he’s a socialist..France has just about the highest taxes of any European country and probably the most people into the social handout.

OH wait, I thought this WAS the ‘code pink’ website?
