2010 – A Raging River Headed For The Falls

I agree with Peter Marshall’s essay below, that we will need to cling to the Rock as the waters of this insane world and government attempt to wash us away and out to sea.

The Solid Rock

The first stanza of William Butler Yeats’ great 1919 poem “The Second Coming” bears repeating on this New Year’s Eve, as we await the soon-coming of 2010:  

“Turning and turning in the widening gyre 

the falcon cannot hear the falconer;     

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; 

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, 

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere 

the ceremony of innocence is drowned; 

The best lack all conviction, while the worst 

Are full of passionate intensity.”

These words ring even more true today than they did when Yeats first wrote them, following the blood bath of World War I and the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia. The “falcon” — a bird of prey — cannot hear the “falconer” – the one who is supposed to control him. This I interpret to mean that those who kill and destroy are out of control. America as we have known it in decades past does indeed seem to be “falling apart.” The “center” — the voice of moderation and sensibility — is not “holding.” Increasingly, whether we think of the irresponsible financial bailouts and stimulus spending of the Obama Administration, accomplished with the connivance of a Congress that ignores the will of the people and seemingly cares only about lavishly wasting taxpayer money on its own pet home district projects, or the foisting on the American people (with the cooperation of an amoral judicial system) of an immoral and unwanted homosexual marriage, the public is being stampeded by the immorality of extremists. 

‘Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world” — one thinks of global terrorism, the Somali pirates hijacking ships on a regular basis, suicide bombings in Iraq and  narco-terrorism in Mexico almost on a daily basis — the list goes on and on. 

“Everywhere the ceremony of innocence is drowned.” I was told recently about babies being openly hawked for sale with alarming frequency in some countries, and we hear constantly now about the international sex trade — a major component of which is the kidnapping and selling into slavery of children. Innocence is being destroyed. 

“The best lack all conviction.” We are suffering from a lack of passionately committed conservative leadership. Many of our leaders who are otherwise qualified morally (and perhaps even spiritually) lack the fire of inspiration to lead a renewal and revival movement that would bring the nation back to its founding values. Meanwhile, “the worst are full of passionate intensity.” How true that is! We have an Administration staffed in many of its top leadership positions with people that are passionately Marxist in their worldview, determinedly pursuing their socialistic agenda to expand government takeover and control of the greatest free enterprise system in world history. And we are all well aware of the passion with which the homosexual lobby advances their agenda.

Where then, is our security to come from as we enter the New Year? 

Years and years ago, I used to take groups from our little church on Cape Cod up into the wilds of Maine on four or five day canoe trips down the St. Croix or the Machias rivers. None of the tame and placid Allagash or Kennebeck rivers for us! Much of the fun of those trips was navigating the white water rapids that were fairly frequent in both rivers. Of course, there were spills occasionally. If you failed to skirt a boulder and got hung up on it sideways, your canoe’s upriver gunwale would go under, the onrushing river would quickly fill it, and you and your partner would be in the river. The gear was always tightly lashed into the bottom of the canoe, so you tried to grab the paddles and any other loose items that might float downstream, while at the same time hanging on to the canoe and staying anchored to the boulder. Trying to do all that at once was a neat trick, but you quickly learned that that rock was your stability and security. You stayed anchored to it while you and your partner figured out how to get the canoe to shore, so you could empty out the water, collect everything and resume your trip downriver. 

In the turbulence of that river, the rocks and boulders around which the river rushed in its wild passage to the sea were the only stability and security. 

That’s the way it seems to be, as 2009 fades into 2010. The world rushes madly on, in its immorality and terrorism and governmental self-destruction, and we must learn to cling to our God as a rock. 

On the day that God delivered David from the hand of Saul, he wrote Psalm 18. Verse 2 says: “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” And verse 31: “For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God.”

And Psalm 62:2: “He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.”

The Lord God stands outside the spinning craziness of our fallen world. He is outside of both space and time, for He created both space and time. He is the Everlasting Rock, solid and immovable throughout all eternity. To put it in terms of the rapids and the boulders again, He is the immovable and solid Rock, around which the fallen world rushes on toward Judgment Day. 

When we feel as if we are being swept downstream by the rush of events in our lives, when we feel as if our future financial security is being washed downriver by the insane fiscal policies of our government or our corporation, then we must hang on to the Rock that is our God.

Jesus Himself expresses this in Luke 6:47-48: “Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.”

Come to Jesus in 2010, hear His words, and do them. Jesus is our Rock, and we must determine that as we move into an extremely unstable New Year we will cling to Him and stay anchored to Him at all costs. Only in this way can we remain calm and secure in the midst of whatever turbulence may occur in our lives. 

It is my belief that in the days to come we will have to develop a greater dependency upon the Lord Jesus than most of us Christians have been used to. 

But, not only is the Lord our Rock and our stability, He also has power over the turbulence and the storms of our lives — He is able to still them with a word. In the Gospel of Matthew (verses 24-27) the story is told of the disciples caught out on the Sea of Galilee in a nasty storm, and their boat was taking on water. Jesus was asleep in the stern. “And they went and woke him, saying, ‘Save us, Lord; we are perishing.’ And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.”

The clear message here is that when the storms of life become too much for us and we cry out to Jesus, He will undertake for us, calming things down and bringing us out into peace.

Hymnwriter Edward Mote, brought up in total ignorance of God’s existence in the streets of London by pub-owning parents who neglected him, came to understand this well: Let the second and third stanzas of his famous 1834 hymn “The Solid Rock” buttress our faith as we turn the page of our lives into 2010

“When darkness veils His lovely face, 

I rest on His unchanging grace; 

In every high and stormy gale

My anchor holds within the veil. 

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; 

All other ground is sinking sand.

His oath, His covenant, and blood

Support me in the whelming flood; 

When all around my soul gives way,

The U.S. president – the practical saviour of our times 

The idiots of the world continue to stoke the egomaniacal narcissism of a man who already thinks he’s bigger than God.

Aside from abject blasphemy itself – the fact that a significant number of the world’s Socialists and Marxists consider this demagogue a ‘divine’ savior does not bode well for the mantra of “Never Again”.

Then too perhaps, considering the numbers of Muslims overrunning Denmark, they too think Obama is a promised messiah, the Mahdi who will lead Islam to victory over the world.

Christians would recall that such a man is referred to in scripture as an anti-christ.

The U.S. president – the practical saviour of our times 

He is provocative in insisting on an outstretched hand, where others only see animosity.

His tangible results in the short time that he has been active – are few and far between. His greatest results have been created with words and speeches – words that remain in the consciousness of their audience and have long-term effects.

He comes from humble beginnings and defends the weak and vulnerable, because he can identify himself with their conditions.

And no we are not thinking of Jesus Christ, whose birthday has just been celebrated – – but rather the President of the United States Barack Hussein Obama.

For some time now, comparisons between the two have been a tool of cynical opinion that quickly became fatigued of the rapture that Obama instilled prior to and after the presidential election last year.

From the start, Obama’s critics have claimed that his supporters have idolised him as a saviour, thus attempting to dismantle the concrete hope that Obama has represented for most Americans.

The idea was naturally that the comparison between Jesus and Obama – which is something that the critics developed themselves – would be comical, blasphemous, or both.

If such a comparison were to be made, it would, of course, inevitably be to Obama’s advantage.

Today, his historic Health Reform is being passed through the American Senate – a welfare policy breakthrough that several of his predecessors have been unable to manage.

Despite all the compromises, it has finally been possible to ensure something so fundamental, as the right of every American not to be financially shipwrecked when their health fails them. Add to that the biggest ever financial support package in America’s history, a major disarmament agreement and the quickest-ever re-establishment of American reputation.

On the other hand, we have Jesus’ miracles that everyone still remembers, but which only benefitted a few. At the same time, we have the wonderful parables about his life and deeds that we know from the New Testament, but which have been interpreted so differently over the past 2000 years that it is impossible to give an unequivocal result of his work.

Obama is, of course, greater than Jesus – if we have to play that absurd Christmas game. But it is probably more meaningful to insist that with today’s domestic triumph, that he has already assured himself a place in the history books – a space he has good chances of expanding considerably in coming years.

Without, however, ever attaining the heavens….

A Time of Great Darkness In A Season Of Designated Light

We live in a time of great darkness for our nation. In Washington, the prevailing culture of our government is that it exists to provide for the people. In exercising this supposed benevolence it insists on controlling more and more of our daily lives and our finances. With a few lonely exceptions, this seems to be the prevailing attitude of most of the Congress of the United States, which clearly no longer represents the public. Over 60 percent of the American people are opposed to the looming health care bill, and when more of the details of this coming horror are revealed that percentage will rise. But that does not deter the legislative solons of the republic — they plow on enacting their socialistic agenda regardless of the people. This is, of course, being propelled by a President who is determined to foist government control on Americans. In our entire history there has never been a President whose avowed program is more destructive to everything Americans believe in, and everything our nation has stood for. Our way of life, and indeed the future of our American experiment is very much in danger. I use these words guardedly, and without exaggeration. 

Only one thing will save us: a move of the Spirit of God that will create a grass-roots revival movement to restore American values to government, anchored in a desire to return to the God-given inalienable rights on which we were founded. Anything short of a God-ordained sweeping moral and spiritual revolution from the bottom up (in other words, motivated and energized and manned by the people themselves) will not accomplish the needed change. 

Will this happen? I don’t know, but I do know that we must all pray and work for it with everything in us. Stay tuned. 

Meanwhile, what message of hope is there for us at this Christmastide? 

This: that like the timeless sea, whose washing of our shores continues with lunar regularity despite the vagaries of human behavior, the love of our heavenly Father remains constant and eternal. There is a calming and reassuring constancy of the sea that speaks to me this morning of the Father’s love — a love which is always there for us, no matter how bad things get, no matter how great the insanity of the world. 

In another time of great darkness long ago, when the boot of the hated Roman occupier lay on the throats of the Jewish people, God quietly brought the Savior into the world. “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of intense darkness and the shadow of death, upon them has the light shined” (Isaiah 9:2 Amplified Bible). God did not abandon His people then, and He will not abandon them now, either. He who founded this nation for His purposes in the world will not suffer us to be left without His grace. All of the millions of prayers that interceding Americans are bringing before the Throne of Mercy will not go unheeded.

Obama and America’s Marxist Politburo, Burying What Remains of The Republic

From Healthcare, to Cap and Trade, Obama and the Marxists in the Politburo have circumvented the Constitution and Congressional rules negating over two centuries of law and procedure.

While the American people were busy shopping for Christmas; catching the latest tabloid sexual tryst involving Tiger Woods’ pursuit of a harem; or standing in line at the unemployment office praying for yet another extension of benefits, the Politburo in Washington has buried the remaining vestiges of the Constitutional republic they swore an oath to defend and uphold.

Every day – another outrage, another lie, another trouncing of liberty takes place by this evil Marxist regime in power.  A few weeks ago – Obama did a pre-emptive end-run around the Constitutional requirement of Senate ratification of whatever Climate Change treaty Obama signs in Copenhagen by empowering the EPA to regulate the air we exhale, essentially implementing the punative accords the Global Warming Socialists want put upon America.

Pretending they were still beholden to the rule of law and our founding documents, the Marxist Democrats – doing the express will of Dear Leader Obama, have joined The One in throwing dirt into the hole in which Obama has flung what remained of a Constitutional Republic.  We learned this week that while the Senate was supposedly debating in public what was ostensibly the “healthcare bill” – Democrats were behind closed doors in secret, crafting “another” healthcare bill that they sought to slip in past everyone’s notice.

On Tuesday, American Socialist Party member Bernie Sanders introduced a 767 page Communist single-payer “amendment” (has there EVER been an “amendment” to a bill that large before?) on the Senate floor.  No one had seen or heard of this “amendment” until Sanders submitted it because it was drafted by key Democrats in secret behind closed doors. Stunned by this move after Republicans were shut out of the entire process, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) requested that any health care amendment considered by the Senate be offered at least 72 hours in advance of debate and with a full cost report.  He was rebuffed by Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) for making the request and was denied.  Coburn then invoked the parliamentary right to require that Sanders’ entire Amendment be read aloud. 

This sent the Marxists into shrill orbit, who essentially demanded that they be allowed to shove their amendments drafted in secret to the floor without either the Senators or the Americans people the ability to know what the Amendments contain before the Senate votes on them.

Of course the GOP strategy was to slow down the Marxist juggernaut of a health care bill after bribes, graft, extortion and direct threats were made to Democrats who were wavering on their support of Obama’s final nail in the coffin of liberty.  Using parlimentary rules that were established back in 1789 that affords Senators the right to ask that bills be read unless a unanimous consent vote to suspend is given, Little Mussolini Harry Reid decided to haul the Parliamentary Officer back into his chambers to make him an ‘offer he could not refuse’.  Three hours after the reading of Sanders’ single-payer amendment began, Harry Reid threw out over two centuries of rules and traditions – to allow the Socialist Sanders to withdraw his Amendment.  This was a gross violation of not only procedure, but American tradition of law and precedent.

The Republic was swept into the grave – and now the Marxists are planning to throw dirt upon a gasping system that our Founders established once Obama gets his legislative ability to empower the government to decide all matters of everyone’s life…… and death.

As Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-K) said in a statement late Thursday: “Here’s the most outrageous part: at the end of this rush, they want us to vote on a bill that no one outside the Majority Leader’s conference room has even seen.  That’s right. The final bill we’ll vote on isn’t even the one we’ve had on the floor. It’s the deal Democrat leaders have been trying to work out in private”.  

What McConnell finally woke up to was the fact that the Democrats were orchestrating a bait and switch by Obama, Reid and Pelosi right under his nose.  The Sanders Amendment created a single-payer health care program by expanding Medicare to the point it would essentially take over as the instrument of administering Universal Government-run Fascist Health Care.

This is nothing new – in fact, it is exactly what Obama himself has stated was the process by which he envisioned implementing single-payer Socialized Health Care.  Sanders’ Amendment was simply the Obama-drafted switch to the ruse and bait Harry Reid was feeding the Senate for the last few weeks.

“This entire process…is essentially a charade,” McConnell said.

Obama’s Communists Now Ruling the USA: Republic is Formally Dead

The bribes issued by Sen. Harry Reid and the threats issued by the Marxist usurper and dictator-in-Chief in order to garner votes for the ObamaCare Death Plan have now reached almost legendary proportions. In order to end cloture, Reid actually had $300 Millions for Louisiana written into the Senate’s ObamaCare Death Plan version to buy Senator Mary Landrieu’s (D-LA) vote.

It worked. Landrieu even bragged about it. Now, the would-be Chicago-style godfather Obama has threatened the hold-out Nebraska Democrat Senator Ben Nelson with closure of Nebraska’s Offutt Air Force base (which employs over 10,000 people and is the headquarters for the US Strategic Command) if he doesn’t play ball with him, the USA’s head mobster, and vote for the bill that will begin the ultimate slavery of the American people.

Note: Obama is so bent upon getting his way and destroying the USA that he is now openly—and in full view of all—threatening to place the country in even more jeopardy. The Communist Obama Government now has a stranglehold on the United States of America, its legislators and its people and he will NOT willingly let go. In fact, as his smile beams even more broadly he is squeezing ever tighter to end our lives and the life of our country.

In order to bring former Democrat and now Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) into line, Obama ordered his minions to go on a search-and-destroy mission against Lieberman’s wife Hadassah. After his Tuesday press conference, it appears that Sen. Lieberman may have folded like the proverbial cheap suit.

Here are only a few of the facts:

1. The ObamaCare Death Plan will gut Medicare by at least $500 Billions—in order to rid Obama & Co of Senior citizens. Seniors were forced into Medicare years ago and now they’re being told it’s time for them to die
2. The pro-abortion language, if removed for the vote, will be added back in when the Senate and House cone together to “blend” the bills
3. The government-run portion of the bill, which was ostensibly removed, will be added back in when the Senate and House cone together to “blend” the bills. Even if it isn’t now done now, the framework for all of the additional Obama-run new government agencies (over 140 of them) will remain in the Obama Death Plan
4. The Marriage Penalty remains in the Obama Death Plan. You didn’t seriously believe this was about health care—did you?
5. The Death Plan includes provisions for the Obama-run government to enter private homes in order to observe how parents are raising their children and to “counsel” said parents

There is so much wrong with this plan and the House plan—think total slavery—that it cannot be fixed. So, they will pass it anyway with a “damn the people” and “damn the Republic” attitude. When this horror passes, folks, it will mark the formal end of our Republic. We will then officially enter the beginnings of the Bondage Phase of our existence. Our rulers in Washington D.C. stopped listening to us some time back. They pay no attention to us when we march and/or question them at Town Hall meetings. Instead, Obama has found a way to ensure that he and his like-minded cohorts are never again voted out of office. The Obama has announced his plan to also shove Amnesty for Illegals and Democrat votes down our throats. Obama & Co pass one set of laws for what used to be We-the-People and another set for themselves—the ruling elite.

This is it. It’s fast approaching the now or never moment. Once more for the troops who understand: “We must no longer reason or deliberate. We only want concord and steadiness. The lot is cast. If we prove victorious, we shall be a just, free and sovereign people. If we are conquered, we shall be traitors, perjured persons and rebels.” John Adams during the American Revolution in 1777.

Obama’s Coup D’etat – Using Climate Change as a Tool

There are many tools Obama is utilizing in his obsessive quest to “Fundamentally transform America” into his vision of an impoverished totalitarian Marxist state.

He has already succeeded in nationalizing the banking, finance, automotive and soon the healthcare and energy  industries – for the purposes of 1) – redistributing wealth from producers to government and to his own personal army of dependents,  2) – tearing America down to third world status to be placed under the rule of a global Marxist oligarchy – and 3) – to give the government total control over individual life, property and belief.

Obama’s plans when implemented with the help of his politburo Marxists in Congress will give government the power to decide who works and who doesn’t, who gets and who doesn’t, who lives and who dies.

Totalitarianism if you will.

One of the major tools of stealth Obama is about to employ – is signing the Copenhagen Climate Change Treaty, and implementing it’s provisions upon the country regardless of whether or not Congress approves or ratifies the treaty.

Like Healthcare – the intent of these efforts is not to aid the subjects they say they will serve – but to empower government to have authority where it currently has no authority.  To dismantle individual rights and  sovereignty and to redistribute all wealth into the hands and control of government.  Think Stalin’s Soviet Union – only on a global scale, with America and the Anglo West being the focal targets of destruction and takeover.

Like the Healthcare debate – which has proven to be nothing more than an insane push for power, Climate Change is just another tool being used to achieve power over the individual.   Even though Climate Change/Global Warming has been proven to be a complete and total bogus fraud perpetrated upon the world by Obama-like Elitist ideologues -the insane Marxist Global Left ignores hard facts of the scandal – and is pushing hard ahead to implement the accords – because like I said – the goal is not affecting Climate Change at all – but usurping and obtaining total power and control of all wealth and life on the planet.

The Copenhagen treaty is just another tool designed to empower a global Marxist government.  Lord Monckton, who has read the Copenhagen treaty explains here in detail:

It’s too late to stop the intent behind the Copenhagen treaty.  Obama will go there this week and do a ceremonial signing, so he can be seen as the one who is “saving the planet”.  But regardless of whether or not the Senate ratifies the treaty – Obama already has already implemented the treaty’s main mechanism of wealth redistribution through the EPA ruling last week, and will employ a run-around Congress to make the Copenhagen treaty binding on America even if the Senate votes no on the treaty :

Instead of the required 2 /3 majority of the senate required to ratify the international agreement, Obama tipped his hand today that he may try another way to get what he wants to “save face” in Copenhagen.  The administration could try ratification under a seldom used back door method of “Congressional-executive” agreement which would only require a simple majority vote of the combined houses to approve ratification. This is very similar to the “nuclear option” that the Administration has threatened to use in Congress to pass the Healthcare reform.

What you are witnessing is a coup – a Marxist coup, using the tool of “Climate Change” to achieve one of the many goals the Marxist Elites seek in their quest of total power and domination.

Who needs tanks on the lawn when you have the Environmental Protection Agency? Barack Obama’s use of the EPA to pressurise the Senate to pass his climate change Nuremberg Decrees shows his dictatorial mentality. He wants to override Congress, which is hostile to his climate gobbledegook because it is representative of the American electorate, and sideline the nation’s elected Senators by ruling by decree, courtesy of the EPA. This is a coup d’état.

…That is the authority that is being invoked to overturn the principles of 1776 in the United States. ….It is with that weighty evidence at his back that Barack Obama is going to Copenhagen to sell out American taxpayers to Third World subsidy junkies, profiteering “green” corporations and the ever entrepreneurial Al Gore. This is the steal of the millennium: forget the Great Train Robbery and the Brinks Mat caper – these hoodlums are targeting $45 trillion.

Obama hates America and, increasingly, that sentiment is being reciprocated. This is a socialist, World Government putsch. Have the American people the resolution to resist it?

American Imperative To Separate Mosque and State

My friend Mr. Federer – makes some excellent observations of militant Islam.  For all the clamoring from the secular Leftists to separate “church and State” in America – it’s enlightening to see how silent they are when it comes to Islam in America.

They will silence Christian church bells and ban Christmas displays – but they are silent when minarets blast out calls to prayer over loudspeakers in cities and suburbs of America’s cities.  

Hypocrisy?

No.  It’s far worse than hypocrisy.   The Marxist and Secular Left – are defacto allies with Jihadist Islam, as they work together (for the time being) to destroy the Capitalist West and especially, Christians in America.

William J. Federer examines Muhammad’s life as a ‘candidate for change

 

Thanks to liberal judges everywhere, virtually everyone has heard of the “separation of church and state.” But what about “separation of mosque and state?” 

Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, an outspokenly aggressive Muslim, yelled “Allahu akbar,” Arabic for “Allah is great,” before killing 14 (a victim was pregnant) and wounding 31 at Fort Hood, Texas, on Nov. 5. 

He had reportedly praised Muslim suicide bombers on the Internet; refused, in the name of Islam, to be photographed with female colleagues; listed his nationality as “Palestinian,” and dressed as a fundamentalist Muslim when not in uniform. In 2007, his supervisor at Walter Reed Army Medical Center wrote an evaluation that said of Hasan, “The Faculty has serious concerns about (Capt.) Hasan’s professionalism and work ethic. … He demonstrates a pattern of poor judgment and a lack of professionalism.” As National Public Radio reports, this memo was sent to officials at Fort Hood when Hasan was transferred there. 

Even with all of this, some still question whether Hasan’s killing of U.S. soldiers was motivated by his belief in Islam or whether he got a pass from politically correct superiors fearful of accusations of religious bigotry. 

Before we condemn as “hateful” those who dare ask such questions, it should be determined what is meant by the term “Islam.” 

Is Islam 1) a religious system, 2) a political system or 3) a military system? 

The answer is all three, as Muhammad was: 1) a religious leader 2) a political leader and 3) a military leader. 

One may ask, what relevance does Muhammad’s life 1,400 years ago have today? 

Well, since Muhammad was the best Muslim, those striving to be better Muslims are trying to imitate him, just as Christians try to imitate Jesus (WWJD, or What Would Jesus Do?). 

Muhammad’s life is called “the Sunna,” which means “the way” or “the example.” By examining Muhammad’s life, we can gain insights into his followers’ motivations. 

Muhammad was a religious leader in Mecca for 12 years, beginning in 610 A.D., making around 100 converts before being chased out. In 622, he fled 200 miles north to the predominantly Jewish city of Medina. The Jews rejected Muhammad, so he went into pagan neighborhoods where he made converts, gained a political following and, in a sense, acted as a community organizer. 

With his new following, he went back to the Jews as a candidate of change, promising to be objective and fair as he was a newcomer to the city’s heated partisan politics. The Jews made a treaty with him, and Muhammad became a political leader in Medina. When Muhammad’s followers back in Mecca were harassed, chased out and their houses confiscated, he permitted them to rob caravans headed to Mecca in retaliation. The Meccans sent 1,000 soldiers to protect their caravans. With just 300 warriors, Muhammad defeated them at the Battle of Badr in 624 A.D. This amazing victory while being outnumbered three-to-one convinced Muhammad that he was to be a military leader. He fought in 66 battles and raids in the next eight years before he died. In Medina, he slew or enslaved all the Jews in the city.

Muhammad sent his warrior, Abdullah, in 625 A.D., to lie to gain entrance into the military base of his enemy, Chief Sofyan ibn Khalid. When Abdullah had convinced Sofyan of his loyalty, Sofyan let down his guard. When the moment was right, Abdullah beheaded Sofyan. 

Since Muhammad was the best Muslim, those wanting to be better Muslims gravitate to following his example, religiously, politically – and militarily. 

Most Americans are not concerned about someone’s religion, or in which direction someone prays or if someone believes paradise consists of sex with 72 virgins. But Americans do care if their freedom of speech is taken away, if their wives and daughters are threatened if they don’t wear veils, if nations such as Israel face extinction or if terrorists attack our military bases or civilian targets. 

It is political/military Islam that concerns Americans, not the religion of Islam. When a political/military Muslim bows toward Mecca, he is effectively pledging allegiance to something other than the United States. 

For the sake of discussion, let’s go beyond the religion of Islam and, for the moment, examine political/military Islam. Political/military Islam has two features: 1) a global conquest aspect and 2) wherever it takes power, non-Muslims are not treated equally. 

The question is, what other political/military systems has America faced in the last 60 years that had 1) a global conquest aspect and 2) wherever they took over, non-adherents were treated unequally? 

Answer: Germany, Japan and Italy in World War II, and later the Soviet Union and other communist countries. 

During the Cold War, Americans said, “We love Russians, but we have to identify and resist the political/military system of Stalin’s and Khrushchev’s Soviet communism.” And, “We love Cubans, North Koreans, Vietnamese, Cambodians and Chinese, but we have to identify and resist the communist political/military systems of Fidel Castro, Kim Il-sung, Ho Chi Minh, Pol Pot and Mao Zedong.” 

Today, Americans have no problem with Arabs, Indonesians, Turks and Egyptians, but Americans have to identify and resist the political/military system of Islam, because it has a 1) global conquest aspect and 2) wherever Islam takes over, non-Muslims are not equal to Muslims. Unlike Nazism and communism, political/military Islam has been harder to identify and resist because it can advance under the cloak of religion. 

It’s increasingly obvious that some Muslims in America with a political/military agenda are taking advantage of the freedoms extended to Muslims who are simply practicing the religion of Islam. 

In order to prevent more tragic episodes, such as the killings at Fort Hood, more attention should be given to the separation of mosque and state.
